"An amazing defensive building, it is the only Alsatian example of this type of architecture together with that of Hunawihr. The wall, once surrounded by moats, is about one metre thick and interspersed with towers and arrow slits. This construction of the 15th century reflects an era during which it must have been difficult for the villagers to protect themselves from various attackers. A path has been built around the cemetery to discover this unique construction.
Along the walls, we can see Hartmannswiller Castle amidst its verdant setting. Close to the cemetery, it must have been the seat of the family that gave its name to the place: the ""Hartmanswilr"". "
